How Geekie came about

My name is Joep de Kok, I am 27 and I have spent years working in IT support and technical assistance. Alongside that, I have been building websites for a decade now, from the Rotterdam area. In all that time I kept seeing the same thing on both sides: this could be so much simpler than it currently is.

Business owners have to approach separate suppliers for SEO, web development, software, social media and photography. That takes time, it means keeping track of a lot of different partners, and some of them are simply more consistent and more honest than others. When something goes wrong, everyone points at everyone else and you are the one left in the middle.

That is why I decided to bring photography and social media in-house, so that websites, imagery and IT sit under one roof. I do the technical side myself: websites, software and SEO. Design, photography and social media are in the hands of Anastasiia, our creative lead.

We did not step into this line of work for the hype or the opportunity, but out of a genuine interest in IT and creative work. And out of the frustration of seeing something that could be better. That is the reason Geekie exists.

We work for small and medium-sized businesses and other companies that are tired of a string of separate and sometimes unreliable suppliers. IT and online visibility are something no industry can do without any more, and they deserve one steady point of contact.

Being found, in Google and in AI search engines, increasingly decides whether a customer reaches you. Automation comes on top of that for every business owner. None of it has to be complicated, as long as someone explains it in plain language.

In that time he has seen time and again where things go wrong: systems that do not talk to each other, websites left to fend for themselves the moment they go live, and business owners who do not dare ask what something actually means.

His conviction is a simple one. Technology should work without you having to think about it, and you should always understand what you are paying for. Joep does the technical work himself, from the Rotterdam area: websites, software and SEO. Design, photography and social media are done by Anastasiia, so everything comes from a single place.
